Essential minerals our body needs
I decided to learn about the mineral our body need to understand how our body works.
My motivation comes from the fact that growing up, I have a lot of food intolerance. This is common in my family. Moving a settle in another country has made things worse. I believe that this is due to an imbalance caused by our eating habits in our culture.
In this series, I will go through the minerals our body needs to function well. The idea is to keep it simple.
A well-functioning body needs minerals that usually should come from the diet. Minerals are important for our body because it uses them for many different reasons. Minerals are used for making hormones and enzymes our body needs. They are also important for healthy bones, muscles, and nerve tissues.
Our body needs some minerals in large amounts call macro minerals like calcium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, potassium, chloride, and sulfur. Some other minerals are needed in little or trace quantities such as zinc, iron, copper, manganese, cobalt, iodine, molybdenum, fluoride, and selenium (NCCIH, 2018).
I probably don't have the complete list and will take time to go through each of them in my future article.
